IDL Session in MYP 1
‘Dead Men Do Tell Tales’.-William R. Maples
Interdisciplinary education allows students to see different perspectives and work in groups with the synthesis of disciplines the ultimate goal. Choithram International took an initiative to celebrate IDL week by indulging in Interdisciplinary Teaching Learning activities.
CI teachers decided to take teaching a step further by connecting their ongoing topics with other disciplines. This would help students to understand why they are learning a particular topic and how they can apply their knowledge gained in real life.
Ongoing topic ‘Skeletal System’ in MYP 1 Biology was connected with Forensics wherein students got to know that the skeleton speaks a lot about the gender and age of the deceased and also the reason of the death of a person.
A small case file was shared with students and looking at the image of the bones of the skeleton students could gauge all the targeted aspects of the dead namely gender, age, and reason for death. Students even tried to weave a story around the case.
True, Even the Dead tell stories. Students through this informative session got an opportunity to enhance their Thinking Skills and develop ‘Thinker’ and Reflective’ Learner Profiles.
