Parent orientation on Educating the Young Adolescence on 29 July 2017

A session on “Educating the Young Adolescence” was conducted by the Resource and SEN Coordinators for the parents of Grade 6 and 7 on 29 July 2017. The session started with a discussion on the importance of technology as the children today are the natives to the digital world. However, the discussion also continued on how to help children explore the positive things in cyberspace with good digital hygiene. It was felt that they have to treat cyberspace just the way they encourage children in real life and to keep in mind the same safety rules for self-protection. Reasons for distraction for children were also discussed – like loud noise from TV, playing outside or on iPads, using mobile phones while doing their homework – were explained to the parents. Solutions to help children stay away from distractions were also discussed with the parents wherein they had a lot of inputs for each other. MYP Interhouse Football Tournament Finals on 28 July 2017

Today, 28 July 2017, was the deciding day for the Interhouse Football finals between GANDHI HOUSE and TAGORE HOUSE. Within 19 minutes, Bhavesh Rochlani scored the first goal for Gandhi House with a powerful strike. The score remained 1-0 in favour of Gandhi House until the end of the first half. In the second half, Aditya Rathi scored an equalizer for Tagore House. Gandhi House counterattacked with Somesh Mehta scoring the second goal for Gandhi House, giving Gandhi House the lead. Just before the final whistle, Devvrath, the Tagore House captain, scored the second goal for Tagore House, equalizing the score. At the final whistle, the score was equal 2-2. Therefore, the championship had to be decided by a tiebreaker which was won by Tagore House in sudden death, making Tagore House the champions of the Interhouse Football Tournament. MYP English Creative Writing Competition on 27 July 2017

Creative writing is a style of writing which allows the writer to express ideas and thoughts in an imaginative manner. On 27th July 2017, MYP students got the opportunity to express their feelings and emotions as participants in the English Creative Writing Competition. The topics were given on the spot and students were expected to write, keeping in mind out of box ideas and a style that reflected their voice, within the specified word length with well structured sentences and paragraphs without spelling and punctuation errors. After having completed their writing, they had to draw an illustration that reflected the theme of the writing. The students could be seen immersed in their creativity while writing and sketching. MYP Interhouse Football Tournament Semifinals on 25 July 2017

The first semi-final match was held between Mandela House and Gandhi House, in which Gandhi House won the match with 3-0 score. Somesh Meheta (Gandhi house) scored 3 goals for his team and completed his hat-trick, and for now is the leading scorer. The second semi-final match was held between Lincoln House and Tagore House, in which the match score was 1-1 by the full time. The first goal was scored by Arvind Mankani from Tagore House and in the second half an equalizer was scored by Abhishek Verma. Abhishek is a promising player for his team from Lincoln House. During the tiebreaker Tagore House won by 1-0 in the penalty shootout. On Friday, 28 July 2017, we have the final match between Gandhi House and Tagore House.

Guest lecture by Mr Biswajit Dey for MYP4 students on 27 July 2017

The learners of MYP4 attended a guest lecture on the Digital World by Biswajit Dey as a part of their Global Perspectives subject. Mr Dey took the students on a meaningful journey through the digital world which is an integral part of our lives today. The journey touched upon computers, smartphones, data, the internet, e-commerce, spaceships, submarines, drones, robots, artificial intelligence... emphasising human endeavour which has made the digital world possible and humans as users who keep the digital world alive. It was a lively session with the learners eagerly participating in the discussion.

MYP3 Parents’ Orientation on lifeskills on 25 July 2017

A session for parents of MYP3 was conducted on educating the young teenagers through building an appropriate value-system.  The parents and teachers discussed the different issues faced by the teenagers and how to deal with the negative impact of the digital world. Among the varied topics discussed were communication style, stress, bullying, depression, cyber addiction, peer pressure, competition and self-image affect the teens. Valuable inputs from the parents made the session extremely interactive. Emphasis was laid on how one can lead a healthy life in front of the children which will be learnt eventually by them for their future. Quality time must be spent by the parents with their wards along with open communication channels without creating any gaps between the children and their parents.  A survey result on stress management and how the children can cope with the stress was also presented. Guest Lecture: Social Media – A Big Trend

In line with the unit “Digital Citizenship”, Mr. Biswajit Dey, interacted with the learners of MYP1 and shared his thoughts about social media and the virtual world. The learners gained valuable insight into different social media platforms that would be helpful for them in today’s digital world. They understood the positive and negative impact of social media on children. He also  emphasized upon the necessary steps to be taken when one comes across risky posts and the ways to resolve conflicts without causing harm to oneself or others. I t was an amazing learning session, which opened up vistas for digital citizenship and will guide the students in their future explorations.
