The Sangam Fest Experience

Sangam Fest 2017 was held from 24.08.2017 - 26.08.2017 at Sangam School of Excellence in Bhilwara, Rajasthan.

The fest comprised of varied events that kept the contestants on their toes: Hot on Heels "Kho-Kho", Word Virus "Scrabble", Rendition "India 2030", Genesis "Life creation", X-pose "From the Newsroom", Dil Se "A Talk-show", Entwined Symphony "Jugalbandhi" and Contradance "Street dance".

Once the invite was received, the preparation for it began in full swing by mid-August. It was a mixed group of students from MYP 3 (Tina), MYP 4 (Yogesh, Ved, Bhavesh, Arya and Dhruwal) and MYP 5 (Dhanraaj, Aalind, Utsav and Ileshaa) who represented our school at Sangam Fest 2017.

Sangam Fest - Day 1

The team started off on 24.08.2017 early in the morning at 4.30 a.m. from Indore by train. En route to Bhilwara, the students practised on the train as well as rested in preparation of the hectic competitions for the next 2 days.

Our team was received with a warm traditional Rajasthani welcome by the host school. After taking lunch, our team got ready for the Opening Ceremony which started from 5 p.m. onwards. All the 15 competing teams were welcomed formally and introduced themselves. Each team had escort teachers and students assigned for aiding us around the campus.

At the end of the Opening Ceremony, there was a draw of lots for the start of the mixed teams Kho-Kho match the next morning.

Sangam Fest - Day 2

With the onset of dawn began the first round of a mixed team match of Hot on Heels "Kho-Kho", wherein the nimbleness of the players decided their continued presence in the game for the next day.

The participants geared up for the rest of the day after a wonderful breakfast. Soon the events began with Rendition "India 2030" and Genesis "Life creation", followed by Dil Se "A Talk-show". The day finished with the remaining teams playing Hot on Heels "Kho-Kho" to reach the finals the next day.

Competitors from all the schools headed towards their rooms after a sumptuous tea to put on their dancing shoes and feathers for the evening. One could see the host school teachers as well as the Principal among the dancing crowd of students along with the accompanying escort teachers from all the participant schools. The night ended with a delicious dinner.

Sangam Fest - Day 3

On the last day of Sangam Fest, the day began with the students playing the finals of the mixed match of Kho-Kho, in which Utsav secured first place individual points and Arya as well as Ved secured third place individual points for our school.

After breakfast, the students headed towards the Fest venue to participate in Word Virus "Scrabble" as well as X-pose "From the Newsroom", with Dhanraaj and Dhruwal winning first and second places in scrabble as well as individual points for our school.

Soon after this, the most entertaining part of the Sangam Fest began: Entwined Symphony "A Jugalbandhi" and Contradance "A Street Folk". All the participants sang mellifluously and danced with great enthusiasm. It was a wonderful presentation of inherent talent.

The schools were given their awards at the end of the Closing Ceremony. Our school won in Scrabble and Kho-Kho individual awards as these 2 events were mixed school events.

This cultural extravaganza clearly showcased the IB Learner Profiles (risk-taker, communicator, thinker, inquirer, reflective, knowledgeable, balanced, open-minded, caring and principled) as the students travelled to another state to represent Choithram International in a fest; communicated in front of an audience, critically inquired in a reflective manner using the knowledge gained while preparing for the fest in a well-balanced and principled manner by adhering to the rules set for each event.
