MYP Student Reflections on International Dot Day
1. Eishita Dhanwani (MYP 4)
Our school
decided to celebrate the international dot day by organising a competition. I
personally think that is a wonderful way to celebrate an important event that
even I was unaware about until the competition was announced. At first, when it
was announced, most of us started panicking. We all scattered around the class
in order to find the required supplies. Charts, sketch pens, crayons and a ton
of other items were assembled on the tables. We all decided to make groups in
order to share creative ideas and come up with something really creative and
time saving. Our class was in chaos. Some were seriously doing their work. Our
class did come up with splendid products. It was really creative and each of
them were personalised which made them very special. All in all, I loved the
activity and I'm sure so did the others, with the hopes of more interesting
events.

Today, on
September 15th, our school celebrated International Dot Day. This event is
celebrated in order to encourage creativity and for fun. We had an activity
during tutor time - to create an artwork purely using dots. We all had made
these artworks and all of us had a blast at this activity.
3. Ananya Mimani (MYP 4)
The dot
competition was an interesting take on celebrating the ‘International Dot Day’.
It started with everyone scampering in the classroom to form groups. My class
was one of the noisiest of all the classrooms. All of us were pretty psyched as
we had no idea that our innovations on the dot competition could be so varied.
We were really fascinated and captivated as to the amount of stuff that could
be made just by a single dot. Our class looked like a hurricane had struck it
as a lot of us were running from desk to desk to acquire the supplies they
needed to complete their masterpiece. The entire process was really
exhilarating and entertaining. But what was even more amusing was when my
classmates started debating that their creation was the best. It’s safe to say
that this Friday was one of the most enjoyable days that I have witnessed.
4. Ananya Dandekar (MYP 3)
Today we celebrated the International Dot
Day in which we depicted our creativity by drawing on a piece of paper. We all
drew our imagination which was starting from a dot and ending at a dot. It was
all about dot today, basically joining the world together through a dot.
5. Baani
Pasrija (MYP 5)
On September 15, 2017, the MYP wing of Choithram
International celebrated International Dot Day. The motive of the day was to
make a mark and see where it took you. The students were asked to draw a dot in
their own creative manner. Some children linked the dot to Chemistry, whilst
some children related it to the eye of a raped victim, and some children kept
it simple by designing shapes using the dot. There was a broad spectrum of
interpretations and perspectives at the end of the competition. Each
individual's perception was reflected in their piece of art.
It so happened that today we were introduced
to a surprise competition on the occasion of the International Dot Day and had
to produce a drawing which displayed a certain view along with describing that
notion in words and providing the description with the drawing.
Unlike
normal drawing competitions, this drawing competition was not announced
beforehand, and due to the fact that the topic of the sketch was open-ended,
each drawing was extremely unique. Therefore, the colours and lines on the
paper were true and authentic expressions artistically from inside and the
results were astounding. Many of my classmates created vibrant images of the
world around us and a proper motto which gave us a better understanding of the
world from another’s interpretation and took the drawings to a whole new level.
But, I think
the main boon from this activity was the learning and experience. This activity
was highly focused on creative thinking, much more than in other competitions
because in other competitions we are usually informed earlier regarding the
subject. I think that this is a wrong concept, because from my experience I
know that a majority of people will do a Google search on the theme of the
drawing competition and will be flooded with works of art from other people
where they will take references and annex it to their work. Where is the
creativity? And that is why, I favour this type of competition more than any
other.
In my view,
even if I or any other from my class will secure a position in this
competition, I know that a much better reward would be having other such
activities enriched with skills and out of the box ideas, because it is
experiences which later become a person’s most valuable possession.
7. Aditi Sahu (MYP 1)
The
international dot day is celebrated on 15 September because when Teacher Terry
Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot.The Dot is the
story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own
abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”.
We had a
competition to celebrate International dot day. The competition was about
creating a beautiful drawing from a dot. We started from a single dot to showcase
our creativity and thinking. Participating in this competition was very
exciting and wonderful. I would like to have more interesting competitions like
this which has enchanting ideas.
8. Yajvin Puetz (MYP 2)
Today,
something very interesting took place. Right at the start of the day, we began
with an activity significant to the corresponding date. As today, 9/15/17 is
international dot day, we gave respect to the day by individually involving
ourselves in a creative activity, which was a competition of creativity.
We had to
convert a group of dots or just one simple dot into some scene, situation,
character, drawing or anything else which conveys the message we choose. We
exercised our imagination and creativity. All of us came up with splendid
creative and unique ideas. I personally enjoyed the activity thoroughly and was
also quite inspired by it. The unique ideas and variations which could be done
were completely open ended and practically endless.
One thing I really liked and didn't like about
the activity was that except using a dot, there were no limitations. This also
made it harder in a way, as there was a vast selection of ideas to choose from.
I would absolutely like such activities to be conducted on regular intervals,
as I found this activity to be a learning experience for me, since it made me
think about myself and my thought process, and gave a different and intriguing
start to my day.
9. Anuj Rathi (MYP 5)
Today, On
the occasion of “International Dot Day”, an activity was organised in which the
students of Choithram International had to make
creative drawings which consisted of dots.
Everywhere
in the school, we could feel the joy of creativity, and competition between the
students. Every student participated in this creative activity and showcased
their artistic perspective and skills.
We could see different artistic perspectives.
Everyone wanted to participate in the competition, which resulted in good
quality of drawings. Each student enjoyed the activity and developed a great
understanding of the day.More photos on our Facebook album.
