Guest lectures on the Geology of Our Planet for MYP 2 Learners

As per IB MYP, Inter Disciplinary Unit (IDU) is mandatory in each term. In Inter Disciplinary Unit, subject groups are integrated through key concepts, global contexts and approaches to learning. For MYP 2 'Rocks, Minerals and Soil' is the IDU between ‘Sciences’ and ‘Individuals & Societies’.

The purpose of IDU is mainly to achieve integrated understanding of changes in rock, minerals and soil with time, extraction of minerals (mining), impacts of mining and ways to reduce these impacts using Science and Technology.

In order to provide deeper understanding for the learners, two guest lectures were organized in class.  The first guest lecture was given by Mr Surendra Singh Chouhan, who explained the origin of the universe, the age of the Earth, and geological time line through classroom discussion, videos and explanations. The learners participated with enthusiasm in discussions and enjoyed his class. His lecture enhanced their knowledge and understanding.

The second guest lecture was given by Ms Wama Ojha. She conducted an activity and showed videos, followed by explanation to teach the learners about fossils and carbon dating.
