Clay Modelling and Sculpture for MYP 2 Learners

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use the more you have.”  - Maya Angelou

Clay modelling is a very interesting art form. Apart from being a creative activity, it improves fine motor skills and dexterity of the learners by teaching them to play with the tools and the clay.

Since clay modelling is expression through a 3D medium, it was on everyone’s wish-list. A workshop was organized completely dedicated to clay modelling where one of our art teachers, Mr D S Mayoor, taught us clay modelling step-by-step, in the process, creating a lovely human face and head from clay.

As students of MYP 2, we watched the process of making a clay model to perfection; and the days following that, we explored our own creativity with clay modelling. Whatever art was created from our efforts and our learning, we displayed with our own clay models.

In our hands, gradually, sacks of clay turned into beautiful models and sculptures. We created our own models of animals, pots, characters and jewellery.

The workshop, literally, gave shape to our ideas and our creative expression.
