Young generation – the Nurturers of International Mindedness

Today, the 27th of September is celebrated as ‘World Tourism Day’. MYP 2 students, in the assembly, represented different countries and presented the culture, language, food and worth-visiting places of different countries that attract tourists. The aim, through their presentation, was to emphasize on International mindedness.

Students also reflected on the school mission statement which states the importance of instilling traits like being compassionate, open minded and responsible. They also shared the meaning and importance of being resilient through a beautiful poem and motivated other students to make “resilience” an integral part of their personality. The other fun-filled attractions like ‘Math Tricks’ and ‘Tongue twisters’ offered the audience an opportunity to participate zealously.
Throughout the planning and execution of this assembly, the “skill - self-management” was reinforced and “open-minded” learner profile was targetted.

by Rajee Venugopal Unit 1 reflection MYP 3 Global Context - Identities and relationship (Exploring - Physical, spiritual and mental health) The students were introduced to the first topic in this unit ’Food Production’ where they organised themselves into different continents and presented their progress in the field of agriculture. It was a very good activity where sharing of information took place to the maximum and ended up in a debate. The complete classroom scenario was like a seminar and the learners enjoyed this. The skills developed through this activity were research skills and communication skills. An agricultural farm visit was planned to learn about new techniques of farming. Interdisciplinary Learning and International Mindedness through Case Studies in Chemistry

by Jalpa Shreyas Shah A case study is a good example of problem-based learning which involves in-depth study of the problem through research and data collection. In a case study, students not only learn to identify the problem but also propose solutions and explain the social, economic, geographical implications of the study being undertaken. This can be a very good teaching pedagogy for development of criterion D in sciences which reflects on the impact of sciences with regard to a proposed problem. Our students of Grade 9 Chemistry were provided with a case study on the problem ‘Life and condition of people involved in emerald mining in India and Brazil’. The case study was based on their unit in Chemistry titled Extraction of Metals. The students were given the abstract on Gemstone industries in both countries and details of emerald mining. MYP Student Reflections on International Dot Day

1. Eishita Dhanwani (MYP 4) Our school decided to celebrate the international dot day by organising a competition. I personally think that is a wonderful way to celebrate an important event that even I was unaware about until the competition was announced. At first, when it was announced, most of us started panicking. We all scattered around the class in order to find the required supplies. Charts, sketch pens, crayons and a ton of other items were assembled on the tables. We all decided to make groups in order to share creative ideas and come up with something really creative and time saving. Our class was in chaos. Some were seriously doing their work. Our class did come up with splendid products. It was really creative and each of them were personalised which made them very special.
