Mother Language Day
It is rightly said by Rita Mae Brown “Language is the road map
of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are
going”.
The ability to speak one’s own mother tongue connects a person
to his/her culture, ensures better cognitive development, and aids in the
learning of other languages. Being exposed to the existence of other
languages increases the perception that the world is populated by people who not
only speak differently from oneself but whose cultures and philosophies are
other than one’s own.
International Mother Language Day is celebrated on February 21
every year and so it was celebrated in the school today with great fervor and
zeal. The alacrity of the students to acknowledge this day was crystal clear
and the event gave a fair chance to everyone to promote their mother tongue.
The whole event was a panorama of different performances, all grounded in the
essence of showing the vitality and vividness of different cultures and
languages.
It all started with the invocation of the Almighty to proceed
with the presentations and then came different groups, representing their own
culture and traditions. The students, according to their religion, came forward
to showcase their talent ranging from Punjabi, Marathi, Sindhi, Rajasthani,
Bengali, Malayalam, Malwi, Gujarati, Telugu to, last but not the least, French.
All the clans were high-spirited and depicted the philosophies of larger than
life and live life every moment.
All and all, the presentations were sheer representation of
various cultures and deep-rooted in international mindedness and intercultural
awareness.
