Environmental Ethics-Pressing Priority
“Nature bears long with those who wrong her. She is patient under abuse. But when abuse has gone too far, when the time of reckoning finally comes, she is equally slow to be appeased and to turn away her wrath.”— Nathaniel H. Egleston, Harper's Magazine (Apr 1882).
As a part of their Business Studies Curriculum, MYP 5 Students are undergoing a unit where they are exploring the Environmental and Ethical issues concerning business activities.
A session on the BP Oil spillage case study was conducted so that learners can explore the varied viewpoints in terms of Sustainable Development. They were able to understand the impact of business activities on our Environment, Ecosystem, and especially Marine life through the Guest Lecture by Ms. Rajee Venugopal. During the interactive session, students were able to question the ethical aspects concerning this particular event which happened a decade ago but its impacts are still evident.
The session also catered to the need of creating self-awareness through the case study which is also an important part of the Social-Emotional Learning aspect. Furthermore, the learnings served as food for thought which will help students in developing skills to undertake their Curriculum Driven Service as Action Project.
