 “Battle of Brains” Inter-House Quiz Competition

Quiz Competitions always bring out the healthy competitive element and encourage the students to expand their knowledge of concepts. Keeping this view in mind an enthralling Inter-House Quiz competition was organized virtually for MYP students at CI on Thursday, January 20, 2022.


Each House team consisted of a participant from the Junior category i.e from MYP 1 and MYP 2 and a participant from the senior category i.e from MYP 3 and MYP 4.


The quiz masters conducted the quiz with great finesse and the session was filled with great energy and zeal. The quiz was divided into various exciting rounds and the most interesting was the audiovisual round. During the session, participants faced intriguing questions from different fields such as General Awareness, Current Affairs, Literature, Science, History, etc. All the students were at the edge of their seats to know the answers and the participants were very active. The overall winner of the Quiz competition was Mandela House.

 

The perfect selection of questions was a feast to one’s intellect and the wonderful performances by the participants were a testimony to the fact that learning is also happening beyond the textbooks. Overall, it was a great learning experience for the participants and audience alike.

Interdisciplinary Learning and International Mindedness through Case Studies in Chemistry

by Jalpa Shreyas Shah A case study is a good example of problem-based learning which involves in-depth study of the problem through research and data collection. In a case study, students not only learn to identify the problem but also propose solutions and explain the social, economic, geographical implications of the study being undertaken. This can be a very good teaching pedagogy for development of criterion D in sciences which reflects on the impact of sciences with regard to a proposed problem. Our students of Grade 9 Chemistry were provided with a case study on the problem ‘Life and condition of people involved in emerald mining in India and Brazil’. The case study was based on their unit in Chemistry titled Extraction of Metals. The students were given the abstract on Gemstone industries in both countries and details of emerald mining. MYP Student Reflections on International Dot Day

1. Eishita Dhanwani (MYP 4) Our school decided to celebrate the international dot day by organising a competition. I personally think that is a wonderful way to celebrate an important event that even I was unaware about until the competition was announced. At first, when it was announced, most of us started panicking. We all scattered around the class in order to find the required supplies. Charts, sketch pens, crayons and a ton of other items were assembled on the tables. We all decided to make groups in order to share creative ideas and come up with something really creative and time saving. Our class was in chaos. Some were seriously doing their work. Our class did come up with splendid products. It was really creative and each of them were personalised which made them very special.
