Service as Action Through Art Forms

“The pursuit of art on a regular basis may be the key to healing our minds and bodies.”- Kim

Students at Choithram International are always encouraged to be responsible and caring for

society. They get ample opportunities to connect academics with service-learning experiences.

Looking at the increase in stress level and anxiety during the pandemic, students of MYP 2 A

took initiative to identify the role of Arts in Healing. Under the able guidance of the faculties of

the Art department, students explored how various art forms dance, drama, music, visual arts,

etc. promote healing and wellness.

The meticulous planning and systematic execution of the service project “The Healing Power of

Art & Artists” were evident at the culmination event on 5th October 2021 on a virtual platform.

The collaborative presentation included Service Talks on how Art therapy can improve health

and well-being, a very inspiring and engaging dance drama, a motivational song by the choir,

and last but not least the Nirvanic Art Expo featuring Nature Art and Abstract Artwork by the

budding artists.

Students developed International Mindedness by connecting the project with SDG-3 i.e. working

for achieving Good Health and Wellbeing through Art Forms. The whole journey of the project

was very engrossing and allowed the students to enhance their communication, thinking, and

self-management skills.
