Minecraft in the classroom - Experience a new world of learning

Image
Students of MYP 2 are currently using the Minecraft app, a collaborative game tool, for their summative task. They are working in groups of two to three members depending upon their choices. The task focuses on History – specifically on choosing and setting up an industry of their choice which existed during the Industrial Revolution. The students will create a well-researched business model (a start-up model) using the Minecraft app for the model-making of their choice. The idea is to work with the various resources to build and make money from this established industry. The students decided to use the Minecraft app for learning and not simply as a video game.

MYP 3 graphic novel project - A journey with Gulliver

Image
Our Inter-Disciplinary Unit (IDU) task was to design a graphic novel, based on the story “Gulliver's Travels” by Jonathan Swift. The thought behind our task was to see the significance of technology in a creator's life, specifically in literature and art. We started off with an exceptionally enthusiastic brainstorming session in which we chose the sort of apps that are useful for our purpose; the kind of app that will best represent our story with respect to significant events of the story and other small details. We chose the subjects English and Design, which allowed us to showcase our ability for innovation and writing. Our teachers educated us concerning the task; the entire class was rising with energy as this was the first experience of creating a graphic novel and the entire idea was a ton of fun! We required our iPads and computers, a graphic novel making application, our novel and the guidance our teachers provided. We kick-started wit...

Using games to learn economics and resource management

Image
This was an Individuals and Societies (I&S) task and there were two parts to the task. In the first part, we had to give a visual representation of a country we created. The whole premise was that we were the owners or presidents or prime ministers of the countries we created and how we were managing the country by making it efficient, using resources wisely, controlling pollution, and satisfying the needs and wants of the citizens of the country. We used two apps: 2020mycountry and SIM City. The choice was left to the students – on how comfortable they were with apps and technology. The students chose either of these two apps to make their countries, described the countries in words, and explained the workings of the country to the teacher and to other students using screenshots. Most students chose 2020mycountry. The second part was actually where we had to explain in detail what happens in our countries. For example, how would we use the laws in o...
