A talk on MYP service reflections on 21 August 2017

Image
Our MYP 1, 2 and 3 students attended an interactive session on "How to write meaningful service reflections" with our MYP 5 student Sujay Jain. In a very friendly discourse, Sujay explained that a reflection is more than a written summary of the activity; it needs to include ideas, thoughts and feelings as well. He also explained in detail the MYP service learning outcomes, and concluded by giving a very good strategy – Edward De Bono's Six Thinking Hats strategy – to be used while writing reflections. Fenugreek (methi) cultivation in school herbal garden

Image
“As you sow, so shall you reap.” This famous proverb held true as our students of MYP 3 began their mission to convert a part of the barren land within our school campus into a herbal garden. The students prepared the land and sowed fenugreek (methi) seeds on 1 July 2017. They prepared the seed bed using school compost which is being produced from the school kitchen waste. Their hard work paid off when the entire cultivated land filled with fenugreek plants which they picked, cleaned and handed over to the school kitchen. The next day, the students, teacher and other staff members savoured hot ‘methi paranthas’ prepared from the fenugreek (methi) collected from the herbal garden. The students beamed with happiness to see the result of their hard work being enjoyed by everyone. More photos on our Facebook album .

The Power of Peer Assessment

Image
by Harsha Pherwani Peer assessment is a learning tool wherein the students assess their peers’ work and have their work assessed by peers. It gives an opportunity to the learners to comprehend the assessment criteria in a better manner along with increased motivation and engagement in the class. The students give feedback on the quality of their peers’ work, often with ideas and strategies for improvement.  While assessing their peers the students enhance their own learning and self-confidence.  They get a deeper understanding and gain an insight into their own approach to an assessment task in comparison to their peers. This collaborative learning technique helps the students to develop their listening, communication and thinking skills. Richard Branson has rightly quoted that “The best way of learning about anything is by doing.” As a part of Language and Literature Unit - “Childhood” the students of MYP 1 did a Formative Asse...
