Succeeding with Sciences

  Succeeding with Sciences On 24t August 2021, the students of MYP 5 had the privilege to interact with the eminent scientist Dr. Anindya Dutta, Head of Chemistry Department, IIT Bombay. Science and its advancements especially in India was the core of the guest lecture as he threw light upon the various fields of research and progress that the Indian scientists have achieved. In the purview of the benefits of scientific developments, he apprised the students of the major scientific achievements in independent India. His saying  ‘Curiosity sustains the cat’  in scientific fields, left food for thought for all students. The students got the opportunity to satisfy their curiosity by asking pertinent questions to Dr. Dutta. He aptly termed  'Scientists as Avengers for the current challenges'  which throws light on the contribution of scientists towards modern developments. IDL Collaborative Session

‘In the long run and for wider-reaching issues, more creative solutions tend to come from imaginative interdisciplinary collaboration”.-Robert J. Shiller True indeed….Interdisciplinary teaching is the need of the hour. Interdisciplinary learning empowers students to explore different perspectives and views. MYP 1 students witnessed an interdisciplinary collaboration between History and Language and Literature-English during the weeklong celebration of learning going on in Choithram International. The virtual classroom reverberated with the enthusiastic participation of the learners in a guest talk by HOD humanities which connected their ongoing topic of Child labor with the history of the Industrial Revolution. It was interesting to observe how a fresh perspective of a guest teacher added to the understanding of students. Students thoroughly enjoyed the informative and comprehensive session. Creative IDL Session

     “Art is anything you can get away with.” –Marshal McLuhan As a part of the IDL Weeklong Celebration, the young learners of MYP 1 were engaged in learning the Importance of Art and Design. The aim was to build an interdisciplinary connection between both subjects. For these enthusiastic learners, a guest lecture was conducted by our Visual Art Expert to provide them in-depth knowledge about the connection of Design with Art creative compositions i.e emphasis, overlapping, crop, rotate balance, and rule of thirds, etc. Learners actively participated in the interactive session and also shared their artwork like paintings, posters, etc., and thoroughly enjoyed it. This involvement of students by inquiring and analyzing also helped a lot in developing communication and creative skills.

MYP Orientation Session

  Building effective parent-teacher partnership  An orientation session was conducted for the parents and students on Saturday, 7th August 2021. The purpose of this orientation was to enlighten the parents and keep them informed about the intricate details of the MYP Assessment procedure and the IB way of the teaching-learning process. The session included orientation on 'Celebration of learning' in the form of IDL (Interdisciplinary learning). Whereby the parents were apprised about the scope for transfer of learning from the boundaries of one subject to the other subjects and to real life as well.  Parents were also updated about the SEL program which can help students better understand and identify their emotions; develop empathy, increase self-control and manage stress. The Zoom meeting was very informative for all the attendees. Such Orientation definitely gives the parents insight into their ward’s academic requirements and makes them more aware of the times ahead. ...

IDL Session in MYP 1

   ‘Dead Men Do Tell Tales’.- William R. Maples Interdisciplinary education allows students to see different perspectives and work in groups with the synthesis of disciplines the ultimate goal. Choithram International took an initiative to celebrate IDL week by indulging in Interdisciplinary Teaching Learning activities. CI teachers decided to take teaching a step further by connecting their ongoing topics with other disciplines. This would help students to understand why they are learning a particular topic and how they can apply their knowledge gained in real life.  Ongoing topic ‘Skeletal System’ in MYP 1 Biology was connected with Forensics wherein students got to know that the skeleton speaks a lot about the gender and age of the deceased and also the reason of the death of a person. A small case file was shared with students and looking at the image of the bones of the skeleton students could gauge all the targeted aspects of the dead namely gender, age, and reason ...

Poster Making Competition

  Inspiron-2021 The more you exercise your creativity, the stronger it gets. Students at Choithram International anxiously wait for the first Friday of every month as it allows them to unleash their ingenuity and indulge in the Inter-Class Literary Competitions under the aegis of Inspiron 2021. The second Inspiron activity for the students of MYP and DP was a creative presentation integrating language skills. They made theme based posters, flyers and e- invitation cards for various school events. The competition gave them an opportunity to ignite the fire of imagination for unique creativity. The students were adjudged on the parameters of audience and purpose, visual appeal, organization of information, and grammatical accuracy.  The learners thoroughly enjoyed the engaging activity and explored their linguistic and artistic skills.

Friendship Day Virtual Celebration

  “Friends are the family you choose.” Jess C. Scott   To mark the special occasion of International Friendship Day, the students of class MYP 5B presented an exceptional assembly on August 5, 2021, with an aim to honor friends and friendship in a virtual way. The beginning of the assembly was marked by a bracing Ganesh Vandana in the remembrance of the almighty, followed by a refreshing and entertaining quiz on recognizing some of the remarkable fictional friendship duos. Continued by a knowledgeable presentation on ATL skills and the importance of their development followed by the compelling news wizard quiz.  The assembly presentation not only gave students an opportunity to enhance their communication skills but also develop their social skills.
